The first movie of Vimala Raman was in Kollywood.

 She made her acting debut in the Tamil film Poi, which was directed by K.Balachander and produced by Prakash Raj.

 Uday Kiran and Vimala Raman played the lead roles in this movie which was released on 22nd December 2006. It was the 101th and final movie of K.Balachander as a director.
