Aishwarya Rai Bachan made her acting debut in 1997 in Mani Ratnam's Tamil film Iruvar, a semi-biographical political drama, featuring Mohanlal, Prakash Raj, Tabu and Revathi. 

 She was paired opposite Mohanlal in this alleged biopic of Tamil superstar MGR played by Mohanlal and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and writer M Karunanidhi portrayed by Prakash Raj.


 This Tamil movie was released on 14th January 1997.
